Fun Places for kids in La Jolla/San Diego

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

With 3 kiddos i'm always looking for fun and budget friendly places. La Jolla is a beautiful city just two hours away from Los Angeles with tons of fun spots for kids if you want to skip the more expensive places like the Zoo or Sea world. Here are a few spots I recommend that are totally free and so fun for kids.

La Jolla Secret Swings - Its free! and great spot for photos. If you go near evening time you can get a great photo of the sunset. Some have small trails you can walk along to see the views up the hill. There are several swings to find in the city if want to do swing hunt for a few hours. This one was located near the Birch Aquarium right up the hill. You'll see people lining up for photos. #sandiegofun #familyfunsandiego

The Kissing Sailor Statue - FREE!

This spot is fun to walk around and see the USS Midway Carrier and take photos. Have kiddos take a photo of mom and dad!

Location: Tuna Harbor Park, San Diego CA

When to visit: During daylight hours – park is open from 6 am to 10:30 pm

Cost: Free

La Jolla Tidepools - FREE, another great spot for kids!

My kids really enjoyed this spot walking around the rocks and exploring the Tidepools.

The tide pools at La Jolla Cove are located on the northern end of Scripps Park near downtown La Jolla San Diego. The tidepool area starts at the northern end and wraps around the point for quite a distance. #lajolla #SanDiego #Funinlajolla #funinsandiego

HOEL DEL CORONOADO SAN DIEGO - Walk around the outside of the hotel by the beach! FREE

We stopped by this hotel one day and found A lot of activity going on at the boardwalk behind the hotel. They had games for the kids like a jumbo size Jenga, musicians, places to sit and eat and grab a drink and just hang out. You can also walk inside the beautiful hotel and it has great spot for photos!
